The Cognitive Model

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on a simple but world-changing insight: It is not the event itself that disturbs us, but the meaning we give to it. Your emotions are not reactions to reality; they are reactions to your interpretations of reality.

The Event

A neutral occurrence. Your boss is silent. A friend cancels. A code bug appears.

The Thought

The automatic story your brain tells to explain the event. 'I'm failing.' 'She's mad.'

The Feeling

The neurochemical cascade triggered by the thought. Anxiety, shame, anger.

The Goal of the Lab

We aren't here for "positive thinking." Positive thinking is often just as delusional as negative thinking. We are here for Realistic Thinking. Our goal is to align our mental representations as closely as possible with objective evidence.
